Essence Poem by Tania Britton

Essence

Listen to me
One's whose life was
Taken from the stability
Of the ancient ways
Remember who you are
Who was
Who came before you
Our ancestors live within
Through our dna
Accept what came before
The stories, the legends
The ancient rites
All have been forgotten
Buried deep within our soul
Yet, through our blood
They all exist
So much has been lost
Through the generations
They must find their way
Who they were
We all need to know
And celebrate who came
Before us
Their culture, their songs, Their ancient rites
Their passages
I am celt
I am English
I am European
I am me
So let's get back to
Our roots
To the traditions of
Yesteryear
Laugh, dance and sing
You see, we've forgotten
Or rather
Don't know who we are
Heal the wounds of our
Ancestors
Lands stripped
Music taken
Our stories left untold
We need to celebrate
Each and everyone of us
Need to discover our roots
And celebrate
The storytellers
The oracles
Our who we really are

Uncompleted shortest day
