England Today (And Some Seed Fell On Stony Ground) Poem by John Thorkild Ellison

England Today (And Some Seed Fell On Stony Ground)

Rating: 5.0

When laziness and anger rule
And the working man lays down his tool,
Where there's no discipline at school
And the church is empty and the prison full,
Let's look for someone else to blame,
Some scapegoat we can cover up with shame,
But let's not get down on our knees,
It's not a spiritual disease,
'Cos if you ask them the reason why
The politicians will all deny
That aught is wrong with you or me,
It's the state of the economy
Or a failure of government policy,
It's nothing to do with lust or greed
Or a symptom of our spiritual need
Or our heartlessness or hypocrisy.
You must be crazy if you think that way,
You're stupid if you kneel and pray,
Let's blame it on the greedy bankers
And all the other 'silly w*nkers',
But never look inside our soul
Where there's nothing but a gaping hole,
The hunger of the human heart
That tears our happiness apart.
If you think that way you're mentally ill
And the doctors can cure you with a pill.
Don't read the Bible or shoulder your Cross
'Cos nobody sensible can give a t*ss! !
