End Of March. Poem by Michael Walker

End Of March.

Rating: 5.0

Although there is light drizzle falling
this evening in the twilight hours,
I feel uplifted because the clocks
get put back one hour to Greenwich Mean Time,
which means a longer night to write:
a shorter day for the sun to glare
and a restful awakening at dawn.
G.M.T. is right for my circadian rhythm
and the sun is at its high point at mid-day.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Some countries, and states of Australia, do not have daylight saving.
I oppose daylight saving now, having grown up in a world without it.
The world had G.M.T. for hundreds of years so it was not a custom to be changed lightly. It would have taken a lot of lobbying governments to persuade them to change. Of course, once daylight saving is accepted, fanatics get it doubled in the space of the year which it occupies.

It is heartening to see how people get the most out of these periodic time adjustments- with a positive attitude. Thanks, Michael. a shorter day for the sun to glare and a restful awakening at dawn.
