Emotion, Meandering Poem by Nathanial Pagan

Emotion, Meandering

Your presence makes me happy
Your absence makes me sad
Yet even when you are with me
The words I wish to say go unsaid

Why does my tongue yield?
Is it because I am weak?
Is it because I am not strong?

Why is my silence vast, a field?
Is it because my heart is meek?
Is it because of the truth I've feared all along?

The truth that it can never be
The truth that there can be no ‘we'
My torture, self-inflicted
My pain, from within
But my happiness matters not to me
As long as you smile in the end
