Emma's Kitten Poem by B. V. Dahlen

Emma's Kitten

Rating: 5.0

She was so little and heaven so big.
Twas so easy to get lost up here.
“And all of these heavenly clouds look the same”,
She thought as she brushed back a tear.

Saint Peter had told her, “Now Emma be sure
To stay close and don’t wander away.
Today you’ll be getting your own set of wings.
Don’t lose track of the time as you play”.

But Emma was dreaming, not counting the time,
and she didn’t realize she had strayed
‘Til she noticed that nothing at all looked quite right,
and she knew now, she hadn’t obeyed.

It wouldn’t be easy to find her way back.
There was nothing familiar to see.
“I’m lost, ” she thought sadly. “ I’ll never be found.
Oh, I hope they come looking for me.”

Saint Peter was frantic and he tugged on his beard.
Where could Emma have wandered off to?
Having lost one of God favorite angels was grave.
“Oh I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

“I’ll need help here to find her.” He pondered awhile
And the answer was there on his lips
“I know someone who’ll lead me right to her, ” he thought.
“Her dear little kitten Eclipse.”

So he rushed to the foot of God’s heavenly throne
Begging, “Lord please a favor bestow”
That a kitten be fetched from his snug earthly home,
From that family who loved him below.

“Lord, I know that they love him. I know that they’ll cry.”
“But Eclipse can find Emma for me.”
“And if he remains with her, she won’t be alone,
She’ll find heaven more heavenly”

So Eclipse was called there, and sent out on his quest,
To bring Emma back safe and intact.
Saint Peter sat fretting, unable to rest
Until God’s angel Emma was back

He found Emma quicky, and she giggled with glee
With her purring friend there by her side.
To Saint Peter he led her. And as special reward
From that day he’d in heaven reside.

So if you’re looking upward, on some summer day
And spy some clouds in angelic guise.
Look sharp, for most likely you’ll see somewhere near
One who looks like a cat to your eyes.

For wherever an angel named Emma is found
On the bright streets of heaven today,
You can bet that a kitten who’s known as Eclipse
Will never be too far away.
