Elevation Poem by Brhyte Owoo

Elevation

People whisper here and there
Words meant to immobilize me
Like a serpent they strike
Cannily to demoralize me
But upon all their works
Yet still I persevered.

Thanks be to my foes
For I am a better man
Meant to be stumbling blocks
Rather became stepping stones
Upon their wings
I flew to the embrace of success.

Years back I sat
Whilst my dreams and ambitions
Laid quietly in the deepest parts of me
Filled with fear
I flinched from my gift
MY GOD GIVEN TALENT.

For coward I was
Listening to the voices of people
Wise in their own eyes, but blind to the world
There - I was advice
With a venomous speech
Told to follow the ongoing crowd.

Days became weeks
As weeks became months
And months became years
And still I followed
The shadowy crowd meant for destruction
Like a sheep been lead to slaughter house.

Whispers in the dark grew
Of a strange peculiar force
Suddenly, the earth trembled as birds sung harmoniously
And the light overwhelmed the dark
While doors barracked with adamant
Wrecked open with a boom.

Joy overfilled my inner being
As enthusiasm overcame fear
Dreams and aspirations mangled and mutilated
Were healed flooding my entire senses
Then, I felt happy as I have never ever felt
A new being I became fill with foresight.

A bizarre shape loomed ahead
Ever glowing as the sun
Strangely enough, I perceived
And behold a long winding stairs
Leads up meticulously
To a great gilded chair.

Do you see it?
I asked to my left and right
But none can
And there I realize beyond all doubt
My time of elevation
Has come.
