El Centro's Weather Poem by Eli MorenoDrew

El Centro's Weather

There aren’t enough Solitaire games
Or corny movies
In this world to rid my thoughts
Of you and him.

I can grit my teeth
Clench my fists
Tighten every muscle in my body
And think
No no no no no!
But the elephant in my head
won’t budge.

I can look at my 150 mg of so-called
happiness
And say 'Why aren’t you working! ? ! ? ! '
But all they say is
Take one tablet by mouth one time daily.

I’d love to think that I’m lying
to myself,
But love, I’ve found, is as faithful
As El Centro’s weather.
