Echo Poem by Silke Kaiser

Echo

With smiling promises and aftershave splashed upon my face
I will snatch you from that mundane place in your life
I will give you words that will turn you into an astounding beauty
I will hold you and hold your hand and hold your mouth in mine
and find and inhale every part of you

And when I leave
Pieces of you will break off
I will be gone and indifferent
before they reach the floor
of the void that is me

You will seek me in all other men
but only find inadequate traces of me
The smile will be burnt off your face
and you will only hear an echo
where I used to be.
