Dying Soldier Poem by Ryan McCarthy

Dying Soldier

Rating: 5.0

The light! The Light! Is fading fast!
As I'm filled with memories of my past
My wife's blue eyes
My baby's soft sighs
In seconds my life flew by

Where you invest your love
You invest your life
And I invested my love
Into my knife
The blood I've spilled
The men I've killed
The years I spent in strife
So here I lie, in the sand
Thinking 'Why'd I die for this land? '

As I searched for an answer that could not be found,
I watched the world around me, not making a sound.
And now that the darkness was coming near
I could see the answer bright and clear

My blood for my child who will take it along
My voice for the birds who will sing my song
My hands for the arrows which I nocked
My feet for the ground on which I walked
My heart for my wife who had it anyway
My soul for the heavens where it will stay

The light! The light! Is fading fast!
And I knew this breath, would be my last
