Drone, The Us Poem by keith brown

Drone, The Us

As a constant war wages war on sleep
The Us
Fidgeting feet and lolling head seeks
repose.
Assailed by chimes and invasive light
Sleep
The elusive passenger of the night on
Few her celestial blessing
Bestows

Dreams trophy at their finger tips
The Us
Aching limbs, leaden eyes
Search
The early morning sky as
Sleep
At once so highly prized
now fought
by yawns and weary sighs
Is driven from the night

Muffled voices amid constant drone
The Us
Awaken,
Sleeps fleeting promise,
replaced
With anticipation
TheUs
Decend,
embrace mundane normality
Touch down
At journeys
end
