Nearly time to go home
another memory stick my only link
with life at the office
as I march away
with the spoils of the day:

The work of a new poet
a book to read
a document in illegible handwriting
a mind wiped clean - and emptiness
where my heart should have been

The memories that flooded me
during the course of this day
the remembrance of things
that might have been
if only I had known

How to use the opportunities
that chance offered me
but I did not understand
turned off into another direction
and today the question surfaced again

Could it have been different
if I had been willing
to follow my dream
of doing interpreting
for a living?

No, maybe not, I prefer
anonymity in making a living
to sit quietly and dream peacefully
about another dimension of existence
where dreams and possibility meet - instantly!
