Don't Tell Me The Pain And The Ache Poem by Shalom Freedman

Don't Tell Me The Pain And The Ache

Don't tell me the pain and the ache
Are something I must live with
For the rest of my life
And I will never again
Be free just free of all this interference
Tell me all this is temporary
And soon
Sweetness and light
Ease and peace
Will be mine
And I will now appreciate it
As I could not
In all the years I did not even have to take it
For granted
In truth when it hurts
It hurts
And it bothers me more than I would like it to
And I have enough other problems now
Not to need this
But if ache is ache is ache
And ache is undying
I suppose I will have to live with this
As best I can.
