Diane Crump Poem by Ima Ryma

Diane Crump

Diane Crump on Bridle 'n Bit
Did ride in 1969
At Hialeah, stirred a fit
For daring cross the gender line,
That professional jockeys be
Only of the male persuasion,
Could include only he not she.
But she was a determined one,
With police escort made her way
Through an angry mob to her horse.
She did not win the race that day,
But set for females a new course.

Diane Crump, the first jockey Ms.
In the macho horseracing biz.
