Deeply Touched Poem by susette varga

Deeply Touched

Rating: 5.0

I read a poem
Entitled
" I am your baby mum "
Which has deeply touched me

My heart is torn
I'm sad to say
I feel the same
But empathy in turn
Stabs me

Society has gone astray
Mankind disappoints me
How can we judge
A mother's love
Decisions forced
Upon her

Who are we
To have our say
On her best way
Forward

Only she can judge
How much her love
Can provide enough
To sustain her baby's
Health and happiness

Unconditional love
Pure and true
Ideally
Should inspire her

But she is wise enough
To recognise
Her community and
The system
Will only fail her
Experience is a
Great teacher

From a broken home
Spent her life in care
No mentor to guide
Or teach her

She was not starved
Had a roof over her head
But once a certain age
Found herself all alone
The system's job was over

Now alone and vulnerable
Insecurity engulfed her
Craving love and the need
To belong
Mistakes could not
Avoid her

Comforted by alcohol
Blanketed by drugs
Obliterated all
Her heartache

Until the day
She realised
A precious life
Was deep within

After all that
She had been through
She just could not
Do the same to you

Your needs came first
She let go
Of the only thing
In her life
That could give
Unconditional love

Lovingly she cast aside
Her deepest wishes
Longing's too
After all she had been through
She desired only the best for you

Fate and circumstance ensured
She could never provide enough
For you
Sadly her undying love
Was never enough

She had no option
But to give you up
Selflessly she let you go
Wanted only the best for you

Had she satisfied
Her own desires
Your life ahead
Would have been
As miserable and
As sad as hers

So before we judge
The decisions some make
Walk a mile in their shoes
Understand and empathise
Release the hate
