Death Of A Matchstick Poem by Jyotishman Debnath

Death Of A Matchstick

I want a inch long life of a matchstick
a spark twinkling
light fire and darkness

why must anyone live for hundred years?
who is unable to shoot at the eyes of a fish?
why must one play the host to hundred springs?
opening closing reopening bolting again the window?

keep on doing the same sum?
where the result is infinity?
writing erasing names on the palm
creating destroying and rebuilding all over again?

there is nothing romantic about growing old
walking through the corridors of time endlessly
crossing the mind made bridge?
when the next shore is unseen unheard
where the dreams have no meaning and reality makes no sense
still they sing the song

why must anyone live though darkness
of mind soul body
living through darkness
entering in a black hole
walking this circular way?
instead I choose an inch long
life of a matchstick
when it dies, for a moment
everything glitters in a mysterious Joy
light flame and then a long lasted silence!
