Death Poem by Natalie Emm

Death

The whisper of you
Creates not even a turn of the head
The brisk flutter of your fingers on the cheek
Heeds only momentary wariness
The enormity of you
Far off t'wards the horizon
Glimpsed only when hand is on the brow to shield the glare
Inspires but shake of the head

Its not until the fist plunges deep into the chest
Ripping out the heart with seeming vengeance
The full gasp desperate for the subsisting breath takes place
In loud piercing wailings
In noiseless tears
A new course is abruptly set
A bow of the head in acknowledegment,
Sitting reverent in the au courant awareness that lies deep within
