Dawn Poem by Elia Michael

Dawn

As dawn spreads her rosy fingers
And brings her veil across the sky
Her colourful display lingers
With golden gleams and reds up high

The earth is bathed in golden light
And birds and insects stir to life
They revel in the end of night
And sing and hum to their day’s strife

As light and warmth is brought by dawn
I wake and rise from deep slumber
I look across the well-kept lawn
At petals in unknown number

For night had been so very cold
A frost had forced the tree to shed
Its fragile blooms to ground for mould
To claim these petals coloured red

As dawn withdraws and day is near
The rosy golden light I love
Is just about to disappear
And join the hiding stars above
