Dark Days Poem by richard lewis jackson

Dark Days

Sammy was a colorblind racist
who bore eyes of three colors.
All of his fears seem baseless
but he is a critic not a lover.

He says he goes to all the meetings
but I don't think its A.A.
he talks of burnings and beatings
and of his supremacy each day.

I often wonder why he is so full of hate
with so much in life to enjoy.
I guess for him its easier to berate
than it is to grow out of a boy.

I hope some day he will understand
what it takes to be a man.
Love is something that comes from deep within
and not the color of a persons skin.
