Cries of a Baby Girl
Rema Prasanna

Only I can hear
The roar of rain
It pours like a stream
From the mountains atop
Only I know it is the
Rain of tears from your
Shattered heart
Like the waves of an ocean
It shakes me, spins me
On a slant angle
Rhythm of your
Heartbeat vague
On a well sited frame
It might end
I want to hold a
sword in my hand
and fight for you
To safeguard you there
I can lead the battle
From the wild around
Your cries, only I can hear
Like one sorrowful song
Your pain and qualms
Stay unanswered
Fathom not easy
Don’t try to reason it out here
You are only a baby girl
The most unwanted…
The most unwarranted…
In a world full of cynics
If you cry you turn frail
No one cares
So with all power in you
Fight from within
For sure you survive

The World can never be a better place till the girl child can hold her own; till she is given a chance to breathe, for thereafter, life somehow can give strenght and inspiration and find a way... which most often is heartless, ruthless and painful, for many... The irony is that, most often again, its women who are responsible for this... A thought provoking poem!

if we listen carefully all can hear the cries of a baby girl...that too with high volume from india...that too perpetrated by the womenfolks themselves only...if mothers have a will there will be a way...nice write

A nice poem depicting the unfortunate state of affairs in the society today. Let us all work for a society where no longer we shall hear the cries of a baby girl!

no sympathy would help, the complete mentallity has to be changed....we all have to make efforts to stop this crying of a baby girl... well composed and sensitive...
