Counting Tears Poem by Elena Plotkin

Counting Tears

Counting tears is not the same as counting ballots,
Although both may lead in the dangling of carrots.
And counting tears is not the same as counting money,
Although both may lead in you acting as a dummy.
And counting tears is not the same as counting sheep,
Although both may lead to you falling asleep.
And counting tears is not the same as counting stars,
Although both may lead to thoughts about Mars.
And counting tears is not the same as counting passing cars,
Although both may lead to unexpected scars.
And counting tears is not the same as counting stairs,
Although both may lead to a heated exchange of swears.
And counting tears is not the same as counting books,
Although both may lead to second looks.
And counting tears is not the same as counting toes,
Although both may lead to you striking a pose.
And counting tears is not the same as counting days,
Although both may lead to disappointment and dismay.
And counting tears is not the same as counting teeth,
Although both may lead to sighs of relief.
And counting tears is not the same as counting sins,
Although both may lead to regretting things.

A brilliant poem. Shedding tears can lead to so many different things!
