Convention Poem by Diana van den Berg

Convention

There is a great convention
here today.
It’s a big one
and of great significance.
I can tell from the way
the organisers
are busy, busy, busy,
rushing around
making sure
that everything is ready..

and now the delegates
are arriving
in great excitement.

At first
I thought it was only
for the glossy starlings
judging from their numbers,
but no, I see a pair
of purple-crested louries
and a robin
and some mouse-birds
and hadedahs.
No, all are welcome
and from the happy chattering
it is a most joyous occasion.
