Contextual Problems Poem by Peter Rogerson

Contextual Problems

As a dawn I lie awake
Contemplating how I'll make
Sufficient extra cash to clear
The overdraft, I quietly smile
To hear the grunting of my child
As he turns over in his sleep.
But when he wakes his mind will keep
On thinking not of large amounts
To settle overdue accounts.

The worries which will cloud his day
Are whether Mark or James will play
Or possibly his greatest fear
Will be that he has lost a shoe
Or that he cannot reach the loo.
The great disasters of mankind
Will cause less torment to his mind
Than if a wheel from his best car
Has fallen in the sweetie jar.
