Alison Poem by Peter Rogerson

Alison

Two teardrops slowly falling down her cheeks
Can just be seen beneath her rain-soaked hair
So much in love is she.
Her smile belies
The cruel emotive forces there inside
Devouring heart and soul.

He tries
To justify himself in vain
The pain,
Of knowing that she lies beyond his reach
Is shared by them together
In the rain
As hand in hand they walk along the beach.

A final desperate glance of love
And then reluctantly they part.
Above the wind
He hears the plaintive seagulls' cries
Mourning a love that was
And is no more
And as emotion starts to fill his eyes
He turns
And walks alone along the shore
