Consumed By Ego Poem by cebolenkosi kubheka

Consumed By Ego

Success blinded me
A new list of friends was compiled for me
I was climbing the corporate ladder
Why be friends with ordinary individuals?
When you live with high rollers,
Movers and shakers
Wearing a smile, was the price
I had to pay to keep my 'new friends' happy
Old friends tried reasoning with me
But! how does a nobody talks to somebody?
Family as long as I paid bills
They had nothing to say, it's not like I was going to listen
One operation went wrong, and I found myself
Back to the surface, only this time I have no one by my side
