Communicator Of My Soul Poem by Tosin Abegunde

Communicator Of My Soul

Rating: 5.0

I heard a bird, sing
A song striking like detached ring
It sounds audible
Depicting a message seem gullible

My soul seems to be alerted
But afterwards distracted
The communication
With altercation
Winks to sink and shrink
The litigation that stink

A school of thought
Defines the reasons we fought

Power surpases power
As strength lies only in the tower

When a stone is thrown
One needs to watch his own
Lest a dicey road
Scatter ones load.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem talks about man's consciousness. The conscience of man (internal police) warns him on steps he takes and gives a likely aftermath of the action being taken. It also reflect the need for man to be conscious of people he contends with because as a matter of fact, we are in an egalitarian society where the less-privilege are trampled upon since they cannot over power the man on the tower i.e the high class. So, the poem talks about calss distinction and the precautions attached to it.
What prompts me to write this poem is the sacking of the Chairperson, Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) , Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko's local chapter, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi- a senior lecturer in the Department of English and Literary Studies of the University and five others by the Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Femi Mimiko, after the protested for non-payment of their salary by the school authority. The said protest held the school to ransome for a whole week when he declared a work-to-rule strike after he was beaten by the Sheriff Deputies Security, the official security of the school for holding ASUU national meeting in the school.
