Cock Of The Walk Poem by Sidi Mahtrow

Cock Of The Walk

Cock of the Walk

You've seen then everywhere.
"I'm the greatest - I swear".
Prancing about on two legs or more
To enhance sight (or restore) .

Important beyond all others
He (or she) has no druthers
For presence of mind
Is what's intended - in like kind.

Head held high and shoulders back
A physical presence that others lack.
To let the lesser ones know
"I'm here, get on with the show! "

**
Popular in times past,
I can make a list that will not last,
For other names quickly appear
Like the sun rises - Oh, so clear.

But on life's "cock-walk" for show
The main character fails to know
Into the stewing pot he'll surely go.
While others wait for their chance to "blow".

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
On reading the introduction to "John Skelton's Poems" where he makes no apologies for his being after-all, England's Poet Laureate. Skelton skewers those who might darken his fame with wit, satire and downright meanness toward those, who like him lived in the times of Henry VIII.
