Closing Bracket

In the third line on page 108 of my copy,
of what a living author
considers will be his last work of fiction,
is an opening bracket
that is unaccompanied by a closing one
on that page, or the next,
or the next, or the next,
and so on to the last page -
neither is it there.

Will it close the words on his tombstone,
or be on his tombstone that's otherwise bare?
If the latter,
will the future think,
'Perhaps it's an ear'?
