Closer. Poem by bimisola Babalola

Closer.

Closer.
'Just a little closer', she whispers in my ear,
As my expression is filled with fear,
I know this familiar voice I hate yet always hear,
Taking me back to the past I used to fear,
I take another step into the deep sand,
Wanting someone to grab my hand,
Pulling me away from my trip to doom,
Of which might kill me under this full moon,
She reminds me of my past sin,
I want to deny even knowing she will win,
She says 'Step into the river',
Her slick voice makes me shiver,
'Leave me alone! ', I want to scream,
Hoping all this was just a dream,
'I'm just doing what's best for you',
And I want to do it too,
So I take a step forward away from my misery,
Until my lifeless body lay under the sea.
