Clock Struck Early Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Clock Struck Early

'the clock struck early'

why? '

'there's magic'

satyrs talking between themselves
nymphs dancing on tiptoe
fauns goblins and the rest
inhabitants of night
people of night
vanishing at Dawn.

whips of pleasure
greens of treasure
hard work and leisure
hear
hear them,
whispering.

whispers, whispers.

'the Dawn is far and night
has its own laws'

'the laws of night are
slack and slackening'

'let us then enjoy ourselves
before the Dawn'
