Civilization Poem by Agnello DSouza

Civilization

Rating: 0.5

Oh Jericho you started it all,
Mesopotamia to Iraq war..
Gilgamesh was not just a hero of the past
Nor will Marx be a political outcast
And the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt they preserved
for future they thought they deserved.

Civil Athens is all Greek still
So is Nazi-German overkill
Yet the peaceful Vedic chants of Indus
blend closely with the teachings of Jesus
But Hiroshima - Nagasaki was not surprise
to everyone who dared to apprise.

The war and anarchy of today
Carried on from yesterday
For civil society there never was
But for a Mahatma who fights for a cause
And ever since there was an arrow for the bow
Hope was then, hope is now.
