Cinnabar Poem by Dawn Novus

Cinnabar

Well i just kissed a butterfly

Butterfly kisses on a butterfly

Was red and black, a cinnabar

A cinnabar from very far

It climbed and soared into blue sky

And I love my beautiful butterfly

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I noticed a beautiful red and black butterfly in my parents garden a short time ago and got up close to take some photos. It landed on me, much to my delight! I googled the description and it was a cinnabar moth. One of the rare moths that get about during the day. This poem happened because my porch light attracts moths into the hall and there is always a bit of a moth mausoleum going on in the morning. Much to my suprise sitting in among the brown 'sleeping' moths was a beautiful cinnabar moth. I carefully scooped it up and took it outside. It calmly turned around, I blew it a kiss, and off it flew...up...up...so high into the sky. Remarkable because not only had I never seen a cinnabar before the garden photo shoot, but again a few days later, inside my house among the night butterflies, still very much alive! Well if that doesn't call for a poem I don't know what does. What it was doing there is another poem...

I love discovering amazing insects, moths, butterflies! I spent my summer hiking in the woods and enjoying all of the butterflies and moths. They are incredible to look at close up...Your poem has a beautiful ring to it with the repeated lines. Thanks for sharing your discovery with us! :)

A crowbar written by a crow. Use the crowbar to extract yourself.
