Cinderella Poem by Stacy Brown

Cinderella

What if Cinderella
was never meant to attend a ball,
but she was merely dancing around
an empty bedroom
And her Fairy God Mother
was just a personality
she created to escape
the endless abuse of her family.
The mice and Birds sang and dancesd
Bringing her happiness because
they were the only toys
she was allowed to have,
not whimsical friends
that helped her prepare.
What if the chores she was forced to do
were caused by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
which is why they seemed like
punishment.
And the glass slipper,
wasnt a slipper at all,
but her last chance to escape
her awful world.
