Christmas Past Poem by David Wood

Christmas Past

Rating: 5.0

When I was young and in my prime
I enjoyed Christmas many a time.

Now I'm wrinkled old and grey,
Christmas is just another day.

The days of a full Christmas stocking
When carol singers came a knocking

Baubles and presents under a tree
For all the family to open with glee,

Decorations in the lounge and hall,
Fun and laughter, and having a ball,

Mother-in-law flying in from her coven
Just as the turkey popped out of the oven

Mother-in-law now sitting with a frown
As the turkey came out black not brown.

Falling asleep after Christmas pud
The only thing that tasted good.

Then Mother-in-law flew off on her broom stick
As Boxing Day came around all too quick.

As I now sit and reminisce
That Christmas past was never bliss.
