Christmas Eve Memories Poem by sally ray

Christmas Eve Memories

Little Christmas Tree, shining so bright
You and I are here tonight
A lonely vigil now to keep
While all the world is locked in sleep.
To you alone I must confess
My heart's deep grief and loneliness,
And I with you my secret share
To find relief from gloom and care.
In the years now long since past
Little hands held my hand fast,
And bright eyed children watched with me
Close beside our Christmas Tree.
Down Memory's Lane I look tonight
I see their faces shining bright
As they shouted with joy and danced with glee,
Around our humble Christmas Tree.
The laughing children of that day
Have grown up now and gone away
God meant it so, and it is right
Although I'm all alone tonight.
