Choices Poem by B. V. Dahlen

Choices

We stay inside
Contagion lurks beyond this space
Or wear a mask
To keep our germs from someone's face

We wash our hands
And count by singing silly songs
And distancing
From all the hugs for which we long

This life is strange
we're isolated from our friends
Our very lives
Hang in the balance til this ends

Is Mother Earth
Disgusted that we didn't heed?
Predictions dire
And warnings which she has decreed?

She now deletes
A portion of the human race
So do we hear
As Mother Nature makes her case?

We are the sole
Caretakers of this earth of ours
And now we have
A virus from which mankind cowers

So have we learned
The lessons that are hard to face?
Or shall our mother
Wipe out all the human race?

The answer's ours
Will we now learn from all our flaws?
Or are we doomed
for mankind to be put on PAUSE!
