Childish Naivety Poem by Hannah Shier

Childish Naivety

I don't believe in 'heros'.
They are fake.
They are as fake as the belief that when our husbands go to war, they won't die. It's always the other wives' husbands who die - never yours. Never yours until the day you get the death notice on your front door step.
They are as fake as the justice system we believe we have - where the guilty walk away scotch free and the innocent are put behind bars for crimes they did not commit because of something as petty as skin color or religion.
They are as fake as the belief that nothing is wrong with us when, in fact, we are the very definitions of wrong.
They are fake because there is no such thing as a 'hero'. Only a Savior. And the only one that ever was, the only one in the entire universe that could have been our Savior, could have saved us from ourselves,
We killed.
