Cheerful Smile Poem by shakil ahmed

Cheerful Smile

Cheerful Smile

Alone on a grassy road
I wandered with pounding heart
The day was warm and bright
Twittering birds were happy on this part.

The scorching sun rays of evening
Flared and faltered on the green road
Suddenly a wagon-cart crossed me
Slowly and slowly with its full load.

Wearing white dress, a girl stood
Under the shade of a giant tree
She was cute and beautiful
And her look seemed carefree.

As we became face to face
She gave a cheerful smile
Assuming me a full idiot
With that smile, she wanted to beguile.

Standing there on the blank road
We heard the song of unknown bird
There was nothing near to us
From far away bleating of sheep was heard.

I just asked her name, and then
A barking dog was coming near
She ran towards her home
As fast as she could, just out of fear.

I stood there just like an idiot
My sense didn’t work for sometime
Being a wretched woe- begone
I couldn’t understand my crime.
