Check Please Poem by Morning Wolfe

Check Please

Rating: 5.0

In affairs of the heart it is a dog eat dog world.
'Nothing personal, ' she says as she twists the knife a little deeper.
All the while she sits across the table leaning in a little closer -
just in reach to wipe the ranch dressing from the corner of your mouth.
The words sew in and out of your ears and fall from her mouth like vomit.
You want nothing more than to crawl inside her tamale and hide and wait
and in just the right moment fill up her mouth and make her choke.

She is waiting for your reaction.
In no way is this your ordinary stare down.
Even though she is searching, you can't let her see.
Take another bite and scrape the fork across your teeth.
Distract her in some way so she will not notice the hurt, the guilt, the pain.
Ease her mind, smile and tell another lie.
No need for two people to die tonight.
