Cheap Perfume Poem by Joseph Narusiewicz

Cheap Perfume

You say you love me
What does that mean?
We are every man
You’re every woman
Do I love everyone in you?
Are you nothing more than a fetish?
Are you my projection?
My illusion
My status
What is love?
Is love just a rush and a feeling?
Are you just my sex image, a star?
Selfishness parades as love all the time
Possessive property rights love rules
Selfish feelings projected onto an idol
Mine, Mine, Mine!

Will you love the homeless in me?
Will I be everyman without love?
Will I be the sick and destitute?
The least you do onto one of these
You do onto me the Bible says
What kind of quality will our love have?
Will our emotions be built on compassion?
I don’t want a commercialized love
Do you?
Lets let real love flow from our relationship
Lets not have a superficial definition of love
I know we need time alone and structure
Our life is passing into eternity
Lets do something real with our life together
All this love poetry that is really narcissism
I have had enough cheap perfume
