Caught In The Headlights Poem by Michelle Asswit

Caught In The Headlights

Faces engraved on my pavement
You have long overdue'd your payment
You sold your soul to the villain
And I'm here with an empty vessel
A hollow shell in which you use to live in
Where have you gone?
You've escaped to the abyss
Are you happier there
Are you living in bliss?
Carved in my chest are words we've exchanged
Left with a smirk yet a feeling so strange
Holding a key to only a single lock
Out of all the possibilities which one do I choose?
Which one do I blindly use
To try to open up this new portal
When I enter I'll become immortal
But life isn't worth living if you never existed
Thoughts are never worth sharing unless your insisting
Where have you gone?
You've escaped to the abyss
Are you happier there
Are you living in bliss?
