Called Away Poem by Dr. Charles A Stone

Called Away

When I thought you were going away
I squeezed my eyes shut so tight
that tears turned to rhinestones
and fell away like broken icicles;
I squeezed your hand even tighter
knowing that if I held fast you
would not turn away from me,
the anchor you always said kept you
from blowing away in Mariah's wind.

But there was another wind blowing
across the countryside that night;
it tussled your hair even as I let loose
your hand to run my fingers through
your honeysuckle locks and when
you turned to face that cold wind
I saw in your eyes the eagerness
to begin your journey - what
could I do but say goodbye?
