Cages/Webs Poem by Liz Annson

Cages/Webs

Rating: 5.0

Out you fly from your loving cage,
To create a circle of your own.
Now a chain.
Now a web.
You may be caught, but you dive in.
Deeper.
Deeper,
Down into your web,
Like a visiting spider.
You are stuck on a strand.
People criticize your feelings.
Your way of life.
Should you change to please these jerks?
These people who put you down?
These ones who step all over you,
Treat you as a mat?
Spiders, spinning ever tighter surround you,
They promise you popularity.
Is it too enticing?
Will you give in to their wishes?
You,
Who tried to overthrow them?
They say that everybody is doing it.
I say,
We aren't!
I 'm not.
But do you care?
Will you listen to me,
Who,
After all these long years, has been
Your loving,
Trusting friend?
Your mind?
The person who helped you get over him? ?
No.
You give in to the web.
It is too enticing.
But I stride on alone,
Through the maze of thoughts.
Not everyone is doing it.
Yet.
