Burma Iconic Lady Aung San Suu Kyi (A Tough Choice) Poem by U Win Kyi

Burma Iconic Lady Aung San Suu Kyi (A Tough Choice)

In 1988, a student protest broke out
In the streets they marched with a loud shout.
For freedom she knew it must be fought.
She couldn't just stay in the house.
To the people she had reached.
To the dictator, the regime must be ceased.
From the iron grip, it must be released.
Out of poverty, the country must be eased.
When her husband's health was critical,
to go or not to go back to England
to nurse him very tender
at the moment of final,
she chose the latter,
not because she loved him lesser
but because she loved the country more
while her heart was gnawed
to pieces in a grief,
she chose to fulfill the people's need.
