Broken Dreams Poem by Francis Duggan

Broken Dreams

He always hold high hopes for each tomorrow but each tomorrow for him seems the same
And his road to wealth and glory is all uphill yet he's convinced he'll reach the gate to fame
His dream is that he will be very wealthy and he lives in hope of better things it seems
And those who know him have a nickname for him he's known to them only as 'Broken Dreams'.

'Twould seem that luck in love not riding with him his wife now living with another man
And with her she has got their year old daughter not everything in life does go to plan
He loved her but she loved another better and the day she left the worst day of his life
And he is not one of those lucky fellows who found undying love in a faithful wife.

He says the year 03 will be his best year and that his wait for success will be worth his while
And though that up to now the gods have been against him good lady luck on him will finally smile
And though he says things for him might be better the good times from him can't be far away
Tomorrow brings the dawning of a new year and better things ahead for me he say.

He has been through so many disappointments but hope in his heart springs eternally
And it can be said of him he's not a quitter to despair he won't succumb easily
He's known as 'Broken Dreams' but such a nickname for such a fellow does not seem that right
And tomorrow is the dawning of a new year and he will sing 'For auld lang syne' tonight.
