Brave Soldier Poem by Ridah Ellahi

Brave Soldier

There is a brave soldier,
Who fights with all his might.
Ready to sacrifice anything.
Ready to welcome the white light.

Little did he know,
This changes when you step in the battlefield.
One starts to shiver, one starts to sweat.
To your fears, you have to yield.

He was not prepared,
For the scene before his eyes.
Trying to focus on his goal,
But could only think about, his own demise.

The screams of the soldiers.
The “Boom! ” of the blast.
The inability to escape death.
The bullets rip you, very fast.

He did not have the time,
To block out the rest.
Because a bullet pierced a hole,
Right through his partners’ chest.

The earth slipped away,
From under our soldiers’ feet.
Burying his face in his friends’ shoulder,
He began to weep.

Do not let go, dear friend.
Stay! We must fight.
‘Together till the end, ’
Do not break our plight.

“It is too late, oh brother!
My life is already flashing.
It’s getting harder for me to breathe.
I know I am crashing.

I hope you live on happily.
Get a chance to share your glory.
Tell your grandchildren about me.
Don’t forget my story.

But there are two sides,
Tell your loved ones.
What about the brave soldiers,
Who’ll never see another ray of sun?

Their hearts have stopped beating.
They lie still in the sand.
The ruby red liquid,
Has decorated the land.

They hold each other’s hand,
As they breathe their last.
Blocking out the present.
Instead, rejoicing about their past.

Thinking about those who wait back home,
With eyes full of hope.
But they’ll find out that they have to let go.
They will have to cut the rope.

I must bid farewell, my friend.
It is time for me to go.
Tell the stories of the deceased.
People must know.”

With that, death embraces him.
Puts an end to his heartbeat.
Gives him his immortality.
A fate he can not defeat.

“That puts an end,
to the tale of our soldier.
It feels good to release the burden,
I have carried on my shoulder.”

“I may be a hero for the world,
Now that I’m back home.
But I remember all my friends,
Who died there, alone.”

“Children, there was once a brave soldier,
Who fought with all his might.
Was ready to sacrifice anything.
Finally, he welcomed the white light.”
