Borrowed Words Misunderstood



An English-speaker only
overheard 'spiel' often used
by a couple speaking in Deutsch.

He suspected they were up to no good.

His fretful look
reduced their talk to a whisper.

He only worried the more.

To reduce such error
is what learning a language is for.
