Born Free Poem by PADMINI DUTTA SHARMA

Born Free

Born free

He comes in my dreams
not to rob me of my slumber
but to give me wings
So I can fly with him in the vast space, still undivided, by mankind...

He comes not often
But when he does, he stays
The touch goes deeper, emanating extraordinary happiness
Yesterday when he hugged, it was tender and soft
But he left after putting me to sleep without kissing me goodbye...

When there are others in my dream
He acts distant, like his signature style
But the moment they dissipate, he touches me like a fragrant bloom
Taking me with him to the happier destines of greatest heights
We float along, singing our favorite melodies
Making love amidst cloudsakin to angelic beings
We suntan, sea bathe, and kiss feverishly unnoticed...

He is committed and yet free
Like the Skylark he soars higher from the mortal bodies
Yet his feet remains firm to the earth beneath
Though they tried harder than the hardest to throttle his soul, they failed miserably
They were happy he said to chain his physique in bondage
Glad to have possessed his body
Alas! Knowing not he had gone far, far away from the terrestrial treachery!
