Love Me Again Poem by PADMINI DUTTA SHARMA

Love Me Again

Rating: 3.5

You left me and went ahead
Never bothered to look back
You knew I couldn’t walk
I limped without you.

I waited
Cried
Wetted my pillow
Survived.

I had sensed the desire dying
I saw passions mellowing
I felt the distance
You smelled different
It was a cheap odor
I tried hard not to bother

Saw that parcel in the trunk
Wished my instinct proved me wrong
I went down with the car keys
But stopped midway
Lest I would see
What I least wanted to

Next day there was that bill
$300 from Macy’s
How could you do this to me?
I tried to meet your gaze
Your eyes went sad and still

We ate in silence
I moaned in your absence
Hoping you would regret
Wake up from your trance
We would make up again
But that never happened

My wounds had almost healed
I knew my fate was sealed
I tried to fall in love again
He was a real bargain
Why do you bother me my friend?

My feelings have withered
They have gone stale and cold
They stink of rotten flesh
Bloodstains and salted saliva

He holds me warm
I hold him in my arms
The quilt arouses our passion
Must you come in between?

This is the ninth time
You are again intruding
I want to be happy this time
But you are bothering me
Without reason or rhyme

He is such a sweet darling
We love each other Erwin
Just get out of my way
We intend to marry in May

Why do my eyes well up these days?
What else is left for you to say?
Why were you waiting in the driveway?
Why do you follow me all the way?
