Boca Flexible, Avida

Cumplo a mediodía
Con el buen precepto de oír misa entera
Los domingos, y a estas misas cenitales
Concurres tú, agudo perfil; cabellera
Tormentosa, nuca morena, ojos fijos;
Boca flexible, ávida de lo concienzudo,
Hecha para dar los besos prolijos
Y articular la sílaba lenta
De un minucioso idilio, y también
Para persuadir a un agonizante
A que diga amén.

Figura cortante y esbelta, escapada
De una asamblea de oblongos vitrales
O de la redoma de un alquimista:
Ignoras que en estas misas cenitales,
Al ver, con zozobra,
Tus ojos nublados en una secuencia
De Evangelio, estuve cerca de tu llanto
Con una solicita condescendencia;
Y tampoco sabes que eres un peligro
Armonioso para mi filosofía
Petulante… Como los dedos rosados
De un párvulo para la torre baldía
De naipes o dados.

poet Henry Lawson

The old year went, and the new returned, in the withering weeks of drought,
The cheque was spent that the shearer earned,
and the sheds were all cut out;
