Bleeding Heart Poem by Heart Of Ink

Bleeding Heart

New year's eve
Not a night I would spend
Outside of this city

For how should I wander
To be among strangers
When a friend's in need of me?

Alone in that hospital
Attached to a million devices
Keeping him a little stable

Who knew he would break?
And fall down unchained

Like flags from the rooftops
Our bodies from our spirits

Dear revolutionaries
Not a sword I would bear
For my own security

As I lie here in pain
Believing that i'm numb
I fumble for my way

Out of this wreckage
The sight of explosives

Today, they'll tell the children
That a brother of them was killed
A brother they never knew before
And they'll shout out his name

But that woman's bleeding heart
It will silence all voices
For that woman's bleeding heart
It bleeds for us tonight
